Melissa Butts, Owner Operator of Dodds-Dumanois Funeral Home

Melissa Joel Butts of Clio, MI

grew up in Burton, MI. She attended University of Michigan and Mott College after high school. She married Matthew Butts in 1991. While in college she worked for Opportunities Unlimited and the Humane Society of Genesee County, in clerical positions.

In 1993, Melissa decided to pursue a career as a funeral director and was accepted to Wayne State University of Mortuary Science in 1995. Melissa graduated from Wayne State in 1996 on the Deans List and earned her Bachelor of Science in Mortuary Science soon after. She completed her apprenticeship under James R. Hansen, Jr. of Hansen Funeral Home and became a State and National Licensed funeral director while working for Hansen's.

While employed with Hansen Funeral Home Melissa was a member of the Michigan Funeral Directors Association, National Funeral Directors Association and the Michigan Embalmer's Society. Melissa also received her EMT-Basic license through Mr. Hansen's ambulance service and occasionally helped to work on the ambulance and community affairs that required an ambulance in attendance. Melissa left Hansen Funeral Home in 2003 to stay home and raise her daughter, Madison.

Melissa bought Dodds-Dumanois Funeral Home and Cremation Center in August of 2006. In 2005, Melissa and Matthew had another daughter, Reagan and in 2007 a son, Samuel. In her spare time she loves to read, play softball, and spend time with her children. The most important things in her life are her relationship with the Lord, her husband, children and family.
